DPR Korea won two Olympic titles. Olympic judo legend Sun Hui Kye won gold in 1996, bronze in 2000 and silver in 2004, all in three different categories. Kum Ae An won silver in 2008 and became Olympic judo champion in 2012. Sun Hui Kye won four world titles. In 2013 Kyong Sol won the World title. Kuk Hyon Hong was the first man to win an IJF World Tour event, in 2014 the Grand Prix of Qingdao. In 2017 The Peoples Democratic Republic will organise the Junior World Championships if the political situation is stable enough.
