The 2016 European Championships home team will have the largest delegation of judoka as the European Championships will be one of the final Olympic qualifying tournaments to Rio and in Rio the Russian men's team wants to capture three medals.

One of the athletes from the Tatarstan area is Niiaz Bilalov. The Russian judoka won a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2015. He won bronze at the FISU Universiade in 2015 and European U23 bronze in 2015. Bilalov won the European Open in Orenburg and silver at the Euro Open in Minsk. In 2016 he won silver at the Czech Open in Prague.

The 20-year-old Niyaz Bilalov is a pupil of Olympiysky Sports School (Naberezhnye Chelny). His coach is the Master of Sport Konstantin Tolmachev.  His head coach of the men's national team of Russia is Dmitry Morozov.

Morozov mentioned about the expectations for Rio: “ It is no secret that we plan one gold and two bronze medals in the men's team in the 2016 Olympic Games. As Dmitry Morozov supposes, each weight category of Russia has athletes capable of fighting for medals. “Only God knows what will happen,” Morozov concludes.
