Passing of Austrian judo pioneer Josef Herzog

Austrian Judo mourns about the passing of Brigadier I.R. Josef Herzog. Herzog was former President of the Austrian Judo Federation. He passed away on Friday 10 June at the age of 87 years.

Thomas Haasmann one of the protégés of the Judo legend: "I am in deep mourning to Josef Herzog He was my mentor, my fatherly friend, my good spirit, the good spirit of the Austrian Judo. Without him there Austria would be missing a lot, such as the Galaxy Tigers. His spirit will always be in our dojo and we will honor his memory."

Herzog was born in 1928 and became a police men, security guard and later attended the military academy to become lieutenant in the Austrian army. He was armed Forces sports teacher in combat sports and built his own judo school.

He was President of the Judo Sports Commission in the internatioon military sports federation CISM from 1975-1991 and President of the Austrian Judo Association from 1989-1991. He had the 8th Dan foremost known as a pioneer in Military Sports.
