Russian young men take 7 out of 8 gold medals in Follonica

The first European Cup for Cadets was hosted by Italy. The city of Follonica saw eight Russian youngsters take 50% of all gold medals and a total of 26 medals. The Italian home team had a hopeful results with 9 medals, all three colours. Hungary and Croatia both won two medals. Polish Nikola Szlachta won the first gold medal for her country this season.
Especially in the women’s division, Italy was very strong. Gold for Martina De Blasio U48kg, Flavia Favorini U63kg, and Martina Esposito brought Italy to the top of the medal table. The Russians dominated the men’s divisions seven: gold medals out of eight. Hungarian Csanad Feczko resisted the Russian opposition and took gold for men U50kg. All other categories were captured by Russia. Last year the Russians were not in Italy and Hungary took four gold medals in the men’s divisions.
Glafira Borisova was the winner in the girls lightweight category U40kg. Szofi Özbas of Hungary won the gold U52kg, defeating Andrea Karman in an all Hungarian final. Croatia made a good impression with two gold medals from Lara Cvjetko and heavyweight Helena Vukovic.
