German Championships kick-off this weekend with new rules
This weekend the German Championships will be held in Stuttgart. More than 400 athletes are expected I the the SCHARRena in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The field includes 12 judoka from the last World Championships in Budapest but without World Champion Alexander Wieczerzak. Martyna Trajdos (World 5th) was the highest ranked in Budapest to appear in Stuttgart.
Last year Germany captured four medals at the European Championships in Warsaw by Dominic Ressel, Theresa Stoll and Giovanna Scoccimarro who also became World Junior Champion. Carolin Weiss took bronze in Warsaw.
The new changes of the international rules will be used for the first time, for instance two waza-ari scores will result in ippon. A fight can only be won with a technical score or by disqualification of the opponent. Even in the golden score, only the third penalty decides the fight.
Last year Dimitri Peters won his sixth title and again he will defend his title U100kg. In the women’s division Katharina Menz can collect his fifth German title.
