Without Ganbat boldbaatar, Amartuvshin dashdavaa, Yeldos Smetov, Walide Khyar, Diyorbek Urozboev and Elios Manzi the U60kg weight class in Baku is a bit devaluated. Nonetheless still enough spectacular judo with the Japanese input of World Champion Naohisa Takato, World number one Ryuji Nagayama and Olympic Champion Beslan Mudranov.

2015 World Champion Yeldos Smetov and last year’s runner-up from Kazakhstan will be absent as he got injured during the Asian Games where Diyorbek Urozboev took the victory.

Without some of the Asians more chance for European snipers Robert Mshvidobadze, Amiran Papinashvili, Fran Garrigos and Ashley Mckenzie who are among the seeded players in Baku. Orkhan Safarov is not even seeded as he fought a few events U66kg, but definitely he will be back U60kg and among the potential medallists fighting in his home country. Korean Choi in Hyuk in an outsider and obviously Gusman Kyrgyzbaev is a good replacement for Smetov and they even have Rustam Ibrayev (not here in Baku) who won silver at the 2015 worlds, whilst Uzbekistan with Sharafuddin Lutfillaev will have a valuable alternative for Urozboev.

More than 70 strong lightweights are lined up for Baku that will start at 20 September.
