Who is Going to be the New Hifumi Abe at YOG
At the Youth Olympic Games starting on Saturday in Buenos Aires, the judo event will be carefully followed by the fans. In 2014 Hifumi Abe was one of the winners. Both Bogdan Iadov (UKR) and Hifumi Abe (JPN), won silver at U60 kg and U66 kg categories at the World Championships for cadets in Miami.
Abe was unstoppable all day long, Abe, once again was the first to score waza-ari with an aerial technic (sode-tsuri-komi-goshi), that Iadov did not see coming, followed one minute later by another incredible attack by the Japanese with a shoulder movement for a second waza-ari that immediately ended the fight. Abe was indeed a talent that came back in the senior category… and quickly. He is now the double World Champion.
Also Mikhail Igolnikov was the winner in Nanjing in 2014, this year he won the Grand Slam of Düsseldorf and he won the European title in Tel Aviv. Some of the 2014 medallists are still junior and booked good results in the senior division. Frank de Wit (bronze in 2014) won the Paris Grand Slam and Ivan Silva Morales was in the world championships final last week.
Wo will become the new Hifumi Abe. Watch the start list and pick you favourite.
