Carlos Honorato will not be part of the Brazilian Team in the World Championships. Honorato got ill for the two last weeks and is not able to get back in the technical an physical form to compete at the world championships.

Honorato: “I know that if I’m not at 100%, a bad result in Cairo would be worse than not taking part in the competition. Now I will take some time to rest and take care of some small injuries of the past.”

Honorato will be replaced by Alexsander Guedes.

Alexsander GUEDES will have his second chance to be part of Brazilian Team in a World Championship. The first time was in 1999, competing in the 81kg category.

“It is always difficult to replace an athlete like HONORATO, but I´ll do my best”, said Guedes.

Another Brazilian star, Edinanci SILVA (-78kg), bronze in Paris 1997 and Osaka 2003, is also an absence to be felt. She asked not to go to Cairo due to injuries and personal problems and the coaches agreed with her request. Brazil will not be represented in this category in Egypt.

Two young Olympic medallists, Leandro GUILHEIRO (-73kg / bronze Athens 2004) and Tiago CAMILO (-81kg / silver Sydney 2000) make their debut in a senior World Championship. Both were U-20 World Champions (GUILHEIRO / 2002 and CAMILO / 1998).

The Brazilian judokas took part in several training camps and international tournaments as preparation for the World Championship. In January 2005, France came to Brazil with its male team. Later, arrived in Rio de Janeiro the female teams of Germany, Holland (plus Mark Huizinga), and mixed teams of Belgium, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Mexico. The team then took part at the South-American and Pan-American Championship (overall champion in both) and went to Europe to training camps at Castelldefels, Paris and Istambul (also participate in the World Cup). The Pan-American Cup, in Rio de Janeiro, was the last official event of the team, with both men and woman becoming champions of the competition.
