Sabrina Filzmoser on top of the Mount Everest

She made it - from sea level in India by bike to Nepal and then on foot to the highest mountain in the world. Sabrina Filzmoser stood on the summit of Mount Everest (8,848 m) on Sunday afternoon and was able to live her long-cherished dream. The 41-year-old from Upper Austria is now back at the base camp.
Sabrina Filzmoser: "It was the most difficult days of my life. I was allowed to sit happily, in good weather, at the summit, with the judo belt and the mascot in my hand. It's too good to be true: I've achieved my goal," wrote the two-time European judo champion and four-time Olympic participant. Postscript: “I promised my mother I would come back with all my fingers and toes and a clear head. I succeeded!”
Sabrina Filzmoser has been on the road since the beginning of March, cycling more than 1,000 kilometers through northern India, sometimes in temperatures of around 40 degrees in the shade and reeling off more than 10,000 meters in altitude. Since the beginning of April she has started the acclimatization phase in the Everest area (at 5,364 m above sea level, in the base camp). "During my expedition, the many encounters with judoka were in the foreground, climbing Mount Everest was ultimately only the end point. But of course I'm grateful and glad that it worked out."
"I can hardly wait to be able to stand in a well-tempered dojo again."
