Ojitani sneaks into top 10 with golden stunt in Budapest

Dusseldorf Grand Prix runner-up Ojitani Takeshi (JPN) won his first Grand Prix gold medal as he bested Tbilisi Grand Prix bronze medallist Oleksandr Gordiienko (UKR) in the last contest of the Budapest Grand Prix. World number 13 Ojitani, who is a member of Tokai University, won their last meeting in Dusseldorf and achieved the same outcome today on shido penalties with three against the Ukrainian and one against the Japanese fighter.
Ojitani said: “I am pleased with my result, I have won the Tashkent World Cup previously and this is another level. I will go to the World Team Championships and my goal is always to win the next fight in front of me and to go from there.”
In the first semi-final Gordiienko was successful against Andrey Volkov (RUS) by a yuko score while in the second semi-final home favourite Bor Barna (HUN) was defeated by Ojitani by ippon.
The first bronze medal was won by African Championships winner Faicel Jaballah (TUN) as Bor was injured and the second bronze medal contest went to Minsk European Open winner Sven Heinle (GER) as his opponent Volkov could also not compete due to injury.
