Belgian former topjudoka from Hornu, Joachim Bottieau, who disappeared in Nalinnes, was found by the police and taken to hospital. On Friday night, judo champion Joachim Bottieau, from Hornu, left his home in Nalinnes and was not seen again. The disappearance was considered worrying and major police resources were deployed. Last night he left his home at 01:30h and the police was searching for the former athlete.

Belgian judoka Joachim Bottieau won European bronze in 2012 and 2013. He won World Cups in Sao Paolo (2011) and Bucharest (2013-2017) and won the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf in 2015 and 2016. Joachim comes from a true judo family in Belgium. He is five time Belgian champion. In total he captured 13 World Cup medals. He won two bronze medals at the Junior European Championships and two U23 Euro medals. He competed at six World Championships and two Olympics. Due to injuries he retired in August 2019.

Bottieau, who had just returned from holiday, got up in the middle of the night and left the house for no particular reason. He tried to reassure his girlfriend, who had woken up when he got up, by asking her to go back to bed.
