Judo bows out in Turkiye, sporting events cancelled

The Antalya Cadet European Cup was cancelled. The international EJU youth tournament scheduled for 4th and 5th of March and the European Judo Union responded on a request of the Turkish Judo Federation. The Turkish Youth and Sports Ministry has suspended all sports activities until further notice after a strong series of earthquakes hit a total of 10 provinces. This decision includes all sports branches.

The next step will be the decision if the Grand Slam of Antalya will be cancelled by the IJF in the light of the earthquake that hit 10 provinces in Turkiye and hit hard in both Türkiye and Syria. The Grand Slam is scheduled for 31 March until 2 April.

The earthquake struck the eastern part of Turkiye on March 3rd, 2021. It was felt as far away as Lebanon, Israel, and Iraq. The tremors were felt in the capital Ankara, Istanbul and other parts of the country. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Elazig region, close to the border with Syria.
