What happened to Olympic silver medallist Hiroaki Hiraoka? After the Olympics we lost him out of our sight, but he had a rough time suffering two heavy knee injuries and operations.

Although he has the image of the everlasting number two, he is full of ambition. The silver medallist of the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 is aware of his current position. “I stepped over to the U66kg division, and I know my place. I understand my position but you can see me back soon.”

Hiraoka was a double Olympian and in London very close to immortality. What is it that those lightweight fighters always come up fast and fly away fast? It is called competition. With Takato, Shishime, Yamamoto, Kawabata and Kido and Hiroaka knee injury it was better to step up one category where Ebinuma, Fukuoka, Rokugo, Tateyama, Miyazaki, Takajo and Takaichi are aiming for the highest position of Ebinuma.

Hiraoka: “I always do my best, I believe in myself” said the 29-year old tiny strong man to 100judo.com
