Japanese judoka Naoya Uchimura won the Tournoi de Paris in 1995 and 1997. He also won the Swiss Open U65kg and took medals at World Cups in Munich, Moscow and Leonding. Uchimura won bronze at World Junior Championships in 1990 and contributed to bronze at World team Championships with Japan in 1994.
