Dutch judoka Alex Smeets won a European bronze medal in Athens U86kg in 1993. He won the Military World title in 1991 in Nimes and 2000 in Frankfurt. Alex won World Cups in Basel and Budapest and started as European Junior champion in 1990. He was nominated for the Olympic Games three times in three different categories (1992, 1996) and in 2000 for Greece. Later he has been living in Greece for a long time as athlete and coach in Mykonis, Naxos and Santorini.
