Two time Olympian from India Narender Singh won the Commonwealth Championships in 1998 and 2006. He competed in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Narender Singh was married to Sunit Thakur, also judoka. Singh was under depression since 2013 and committed suicide in 2016. He is the first Indian judoka to have represented India in two Olympics which were the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1999 and thereafter began working with the Punjab Police.
