Who starts his world level career in Abu Dhabi?
This week the World Junior Championships will take place in Abu Dhabi. Everyone wants to have a career like Teddy Riner who won the world junior title in 2006 and 2008, but more importantly added 8 World titles and the Olympic title.
Teddy Riner is already the most successful judoka ever, although he will have to work hard to make it to 3 Olympic titles like Tadahiro Nomura. Nonetheless the 8 World titles count and he started his career with winning the World Junior title. In fact of all athletes who accomplished the triple of World Junior title, World senior title and Olympic title, Riner is the only one who captured two World Junior titles.
Eleven athletes won at least one World junior title, World senior title and an Olympic medal, but never the Olympic gold medal. For instance Alexander Mikhailine won three world titles, and World Junior title but took silver in 2012. Dutch Edith Bosch won three Olympic medals, the world title and world junior title, but couldn’t reach this exclusive list.
Current candidates to reach this list are obviously 2015 World Champions Ryunosuke Haga, Shohei Ono, Yeldos Smetov, Mami Umeki, An Ba-Ul and former World Champions Majlinda Kelmendi, Ami Kondo, Naohisa Takato, Rafaela Silva, Mayra Aguiar, Avtandil Tchrikishvili, Lukas Krpalek and Loic Pietri. Who will be next?
